How Long Will It Take to Get Dentures?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Dr. Beliveau @ 1:40 am

Upper full dentureDentures are a tried and proven solution to treat lost teeth. Advancements in technology and materials allow them to look and feel more realistic than ever before. However, it will take more than one trip to your dentist to ensure the best results. Everyone’s timeline differs, but here’s how long you can expect it to take to get your new dentures.

Consultation

You’ll first need a consultation with your dentist to ensure dentures are the right treatment for you. Besides a visual examination, your dentist will also review X-rays and may perform other diagnostic services. They will discuss their findings with you and create a personalized treatment plan to restore a complete, functional smile.

Preparing for Dentures

It is common to need preliminary treatments before getting dentures, like tooth extractions or gum disease therapy. Your mouth must be healthy. Although it may add more steps to your treatment plan, it’s time well-spent to ensure your investment is successful.

Impression and Wax Mockup

Your dentist will take an impression of your mouth to allow the dental lab to create a wax mockup of your new dentures. It can take the lab several weeks because they will be crafted with the utmost precision.

Trying on Your Denture

After the lab sends your mockup back to your dentist, you’ll return to try on your new smile. It’s normal to need a few adjustments before you’re ready for your final set of teeth.

Receiving Your New Teeth

Once all changes have been made, the dental lab will craft your dentures from the best materials using the latest technologies. Your dentures will sit comfortably on your gums, only needing suction to stay in place. Your dazzling new smile can last for 5 to 7 years with the correct care.

Maintaining a Snug Fit

You might need minor adjustments a few weeks after getting your dentures because the shape of your mouth will change. It’s also important to have your dentures relined regularly to accommodate for any changes to your mouth. With the right care at home and regular trips to your dentist, your dentures will last for many years before needing to be replaced.
